WIP-Project Gundam: modeling hip shields

So I took around 3 months hiatus on this project but I’m back… this is a behemoth of a model and I’m going slow so here is a small update on what I finished last: the Hip shields. They will be on just one the right side, the left side will be uncovered to show all of the details.

WIP-Project Gundam: Modeling Feet

Continued the work on this guy; modeled the feet and I think it is starting to look “Gundam” like or recognizable. Now I need to finish the small details that connect the feet to the lower legs, then I’ll move on to the chest. This is probably the most ambitious model I’ve done to date and I hope it turns out well in the final image.

Progress with this model is slow due to little free time left but going nonetheless :) I have finished the lower leg frame and now I’m adding the smaller mechanical parts inside the calf and then will be the foot. The right side will be covered with the armor so that will help with the scene size and render times.

Found some time to keep working on this. Doesn’t look like much but it actually is, lots of pieces to model and holes to drill. Added the side shields and started on the knee armor.

A Fisherman’s Story: Final Fisherman Sculpt

I finally completed the sculpt of the fisherman. I’m happy with the final result, here is a little secret… I didn’t work on the feet at all, they aren’t visible so I decided to skip ‘em and work on the shirt and pants instead :P Anyway, the only mesh left is the fishing rod and the small “bait” fish.

A Fisherman’s Story: Fisherman Sculpt

Started sculpting the fisherman, here I put most of the time into the head since its what’s gonna be seen the most besides the arms. Actually, with the hat you will barely see the top of the head but the shadows should make the face look pretty cool. I’ll extract geometry from this mesh to make the shirt and pants. This is the last piece of the puzzle ;)

A Fisherman’s Story: Comp Test

I’ve been making some good progress on this image. I created the teeth, the bigger ones still need some work, created the water and worked out the underwater/surface feel that I was looking for. I was also checking for correct 32 bit rendering, color display after gamma correction (working in linear space) and checking for errors etc.
Next on the list is the fisherman and fishing rod, after that, hi res rendering for comp. Almost there, the teeth make a huge difference, don’t they?

A Fisherman’s Story: Fish Lighting Test

Here is a test render of the direction I’m taking with lighting, there will be 2 set ups, underwater and above water. Nevermind the specular of the fish, that will be rendered as a separate pass for more control. Time to make some teeth and the other models needed to complete the scene. Comments are always welcomed.

A Fisherman’s Story: Third Critter Diffuse

I know, I know, I’ve been slacking on this project but don’t worry, I’ll pick up the pace pretty soon. Here is another ZBrush screen grab showing the diffuse texture of the third critter. It turned out more saturated than I thought but that’s an easy fix. From these textures I’ll make the sub surface scattering and specular textures. I think the biggest challenge with this image will be lighting, will see…
